For SPACE AVAILABLE, created for PDX in conjunction with the 2026 Converge 45 Triennial, Ritter adapts the visual language of commercial billboard signage into a poetic invitation. The full text on her work reads, “SPACE AVAILABLE/ poems are possible”. Her modification of a phrase from real estate advertising shifts the focus from directive to provocation, asking what kinds of space might still be open to collective imagination. Situated within the airport—an environment defined by movement, waiting, and transition—the work offers a counterpoint to the rhythms of transit and entices viewers to pause and consider the in-between as a space not only of passage, but of possibility.
SPACE AVAILABLE is made of bright, billowy chiffon and is entirely hand-sewn. The neon color appears to glow within the display case and rhinestone details adorn certain letters. The installation is immersive and brings to mind old theater curtains but in a strikingly contemporary and playful way.
Morgan Ritter is an artist and poet. Her work processes embodiment and more broadly the capacity for objects to hold multiple experiences, energies, and meanings. Playfully generated from hypnagogic or dream-like states, object, action, sensation, and language move freely in her work. Ritter’s creative practice spans drawing, sculpture, text, HTML web pages, and textiles. Her art work has been exhibited at Noon Projects (LA), Artists Space (NY), Shanaynay (Paris), PICA, The Whitney Biennial 2017 (NY), a light bulb store, an orchard, MoMA (NY), and many other conventional and less conventional venues for experiencing art. She is the recipient of grants from Oregon Arts Commission, Foundation for Contemporary Art, Regional Arts & Culture Council, among others. She has attended several residencies including Anderson Ranch and Ken Kesey’s Farm. Morgan is a Co-Director of House of Art and Craft, and on the Art Collection Committee at the Oregon Jewish Museum. Her artwork has been featured in Art Forum, Art Practical, Art Viewer, e-flux, W Magazine & Vice. She is a longtime WAGENT with Working Artists and the Greater Economy.

This exhibition is in partnership with Converge 45. Converge 45 is a Portland-based nonprofit that strengthens the region’s arts ecosystem through free, collaborative contemporary art programs, including its signature citywide triennial. The 2026 Converge 45 Triennial, Here, To you, Now, features 28 artists and 17 new commissions across 16 venues throughout Portland. Opening weekend, August 27–30, 2026, includes performances, screenings, and talks, with exhibitions continuing through the fall.
