Plein Air Painter Bhavani Krishnan Pays Homage to the Mountains

The quiet awe of being out in nature is something artist Bhavani Krishnan is very familiar with. As part of her practice, she often hikes through the wilderness with an easel and paint materials packed and ready to set up once she finds a vista she feels compelled to capture. Bhavani strives not only to convey the immensity and beauty of nature, but the feelings it evokes in her.

“For this show, I wanted to capture a thousand moments spent in the wilderness, and encapsulate them into a body of work. I sought to convey the grandeur of it all – the colossal presence of ancient giants, the vastness and the atmosphere of the mountain landscapes.”

Bhavani Krishnan, Golden Descent

This exhibition features print reproductions of paintings referencing the majesty of Glacier National Park but more broadly aims to share Krishnan’s love for the wilderness and memories of places she’s been to.

” ‘Grandeur’ is a triptych containing reproductions of original oil paintings, inspired by the dramatic landscapes of Glacier National Park. These works are expressive, with energetic brushstrokes and rich, vivid colors that aim to capture not just a scene, but a feeling – an impression of awe, reverence and belonging.

Bhavani was born in the Alps in Switzerland and grew up hiking through the Western ghats and Sahyadri ranges in India. She has long held a love and reverence for high places in the world. Over the past 15 years, the artist has traveled and hiked extensively across the United States, continually seeking both inspiration and solace in the rugged beauty of the mountains.

Bhavani Krishnan, Mountain Layers

Bhavani specializes in painterly realism, working primarily with oils to capture a wide range of subjects. Her approach combines abstract shapes of colors to create representational art. Painting from life is her greatest thrill, as she draws inspiration from the interplay of light and shadow, color and shapes. Her vision as an artist is to weave together what she sees and what she feels into a visual language that lingers in the heart of the viewer. Each painting paves the way for the next, driving her quest for learning and artistic excellence.
